Visitors to the Pentagon Memorial overwhelmingly praise the careful planning and execution of every detail. The site itself is laid out more for somber reflection than for "touring," and you'll find visitors sitting on the many benches that line the plaza, engrossed in quiet contemplation.
Each bench memorializes one of the 183 people whose lives were lost during the September 11 attacks on the Pentagon. If you like, you can dial up a self-guided audio tour on your cell phone (it's pretty short, at only 12 minutes) and visitors who have done so say it's informative and well worth your time. Finally, you should be aware that while photographs of the memorial are welcome, you should be sure to avoid taking pictures of the nearby Pentagon itself, as such photos are not allowed for security reasons.
