While there’s no question that Ford’s Theatre is a historically significant site, it’s also a vibrant and vital site for theater and culture in the DMV. The upcoming run of Steven Sondheim’s musical comedy Into the Woods, running from May 8 to May 22, is one example of the kind of work that Ford’s regularly showcases.

A wry and satirical spin on classic children’s stories, Into the Woods tells the story of a baker and his wife who find themselves wrapped up in a drama involving a cast of fairy tale favorites. The score and the book both won Tony awards during the show’s original Broadway run, and the direction of the Ford’s production by Peter Flynn (who also directed Ragtime and 1776 at the theatre) breathes new life into this classic American musical.

The show runs just under three hours, including a 15-minute intermission. Tickets start at $25 and are available online and at the box office.
